| NKY Golf Review - Belterra Golf Resort |
|
| 7/25/2008 - by NKS Editor |

Belterra Golf Resort
Grade: Eagle
Immaculate! The Belterra golf course was very nice! I played the course in mid-July and the course was still in great shape besides the dry weather we've had. The greens and fairways were all plush and I cannot think of one bad thing to say about the course!
I was at Belterra for the beginning of my yearly golf trip as this year we decided to play here instead of Perry Park before heading down to Pine Valley Golf Resort in Elizabethtown, KY. Belterra has a golf package that included golf, one night stay and breakfast buffet for $125 per person. And it was well worth it!! The breakfast buffet was just as good as the golf course too! A definite value! It's definitely a must-try for golfers and even for folks just looking to try other activities aside from watching TV or playing poker.
Some of the golfers in our group didn't stay at the hotel so they had to pay $76 for the greens fees. Seems a little steep but the course is stellar and well worth the price if you have not played it yet.

| Newport and Boone County advance to the Sweet 16 |

|
The basketball action for the 9th Region Tournament at the Bank of Kentucky Center this past week was exhilirating, and ended in shocking fashion. The Newport Wildcats defeated the defending State Champions, Holmes Bulldogs, 60-34 sending shock waves throughout the state of Kentucky.
Demarco Foster scored 26 points to lead the Wildcats to their first trip to the Sweet 16 since 1962. Foster was also named the tournament's MVP. And Newport's tenacious man-to-man defense allowed only 9-of-45 shooting for the Bulldogs.
Newport came into the 9th Region tournament as a District loser having lost to NewCath by 30 points. The Wildcats then defeated Ryle and CovCath before facing the favored Bulldogs. The Wildcats had lost their previous 2 games vs Holmes this year, 59-41 and 61-51, but those games were in December!
Newport will play the winner of Region 2 on March 17 at 6:30 PM at Rupp Arena. Boys Sweet 16 Bracket
For the girls 9th Region Championship, the game was no different than the previous 2 meetings this past year . . . close! Boone County had defeated Ryle this past year 58-53 and 42-41 in the District Championship game.
The Rebels defeated the Raiders 32-30 and head to the Sweet 16 for the second straight year. The Rebels were lead by Sydney Moss who finished the game with 18 points and 13 rebounds and was named the tournament's MVP.
Boone County will play Bowling Green (28-2) on Thursday, March 11 at 12:00 PM at E.A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green. Girls Sweet 16 Bracket

| 2/11/2010 - by NKS Editor |
|
Date: February 20, 2010
Time: 7PM - 11PM
Place: Drawbridge Inn
Cost: $25.00
Last year, Becky Sprong was living the normal life of any married, working, 38 year old woman. While at work, she suffered a heart attack and was miraculously brought back to life. Becky’s heart was failing, so she had a defibrillator implanted.
This past summer, Becky’s heart became weaker. She became too weak to work and had to quit her job. After exhausting all possibilities, her doctors decided the best treatment would be a heart transplant.
Becky is currently at the Cleveland Clinic and has thankfully been accepted on the heart transplant list. She will stay at the Cleveland Clinic until she receives her new
heart, which could take a long time.
Becky’s friends and family are organizing a fundraiser
to aid in payment of her current and future medical expenses.
Please consider donating an item or service for the auction. To schedule a pick up of your donated item, please e-mail us at beckysprongbenefit@yahoo.com or call
859.760.1760. If you would prefer to make a monetary donation, your donation can be made payable to the Becky Sprong Benefit Fund at any 5/3 bank location.
Fundraiser includes appetizers, draft beer and soft drinks. Entertainment provided by Ben Walz and Vince and John.

| NKY Golf Review - Hickory Sticks 2008 |
|
| 7/25/2008 - by NKS Editor |
|
Hickory Sticks Golf Course
Grade: Par
I played in an outing at Hickory Sticks this summer and the course has not changed one bit from last year. It's still in pretty good shape and well kept. We always come back to Hickory Sticks because it has some challenging holes and is economical on the wallet.

| NKY Golf Course Review - Perry Park |
|
| 10/26/2007 - by NKS Editor |
|
Perry Park Golf Resort
Grade: Par
Perry Park has now added a new nine holes to their golf course and named them Antlers, Whitetail, and Buckskin. I played Antlers and Whitetail, which only has two of the new wholes on Whitetail. All of Antlers' holes are from the original 18.
The course itself is in pretty good shape, especially the greens, but the fairways had a few rough spots. One of the things I don't like is if you start on Antlers, you have to play one of the more difficult par 5's first. This hole is narrow, goes up hill and is windy. Not a good hole to start on for most average golfers.
I did like the two new holes I played on Whitetail. The holes were not very long but had more sandtraps and more mounds along the fairways. I am looking forward to playing the other new holes soon.
Thank goodness we got an early tee time this day because there seemed to be many "less than average" hackers out there behind us. We also found many divot marks on the greens not fixed. So, our group tried to help out and fix as most we could.
Overall, Perry Park is a pretty open course with some good scenic views, especially when the deer come out, and there are A LOT of deer. It's a simple course but does offer a challenge if you play from the back tees.

| Lindale Golf Club - GREAT Value for a nice course! |
|
| 11/5/2007 - by Rex |
|
|
Lindale Golf Club off US-52 in Ohio is a fantastic course for much less than what most courses around the Greater Cincinnati area cost. Normal summer rates are only $29.50 for weekends, which includes green fees & cart! The course is currently in great shape, VERY green! with some dry spots here & there in the fairways. The greens are a bit hard, but what can you expect from the huge drought we had over the summer? The course is fairly flat with pretty much wide open fairways. It does have a few dog-leg holes & a few with water that comes into play. On course toughness on a scale of 1-10, I'd give it a 7. Keep it in the fairway & expect a great round!
