Lady Dawgs take a bite out of the Indians, win 41-31
1/10/2006 - by Nathan Eten
Covington, KY - The night was just getting started as the Lady Indians from Holy Cross took on their "in-city" rival, the Holmes Lady Bulldogs. The air was intense inside Holy Cross' gym as fans piled inside to watch.

The game started off a little stagnant for both teams, but Holmes would start to score some buckets and put points up on the board. They were led by Christina Weaver, the left-handed shooter, who had a game high 13 points. Weaver looked very impressive all night long from the field. The Indians were led early by guard Rachel Lantry, who finished the game with a team high 10 points. The Indians always kept the game within reach despite never taking a large lead. They were being beaten through the entire game, but showed heart by fighting back throughout the game. At halftime the Indians would find themselves down by seven points by the score of 18-11. Holmes was two quarters away from defeating their rival.

In the second half, the Lady Indians came out with their intensity high and their focus on regaining the lead. They would come close, but Holmes always got a score when they were in need of it most. The Lady Indians at times could not get any shots to go in, especially in the post, due to great defense by Webb and McGee, their forwards. Saquesha Hughes helped out her team, as she was an offensive threat for the Lady Dawgs, she scored 11 points during the game. Slade, the Dawgs point guard, would distribute the ball to her teammates well throughout the whole game and control the tempo when it seemed like the Lady Indians were going to get the lead late in the game. The deficit for the Indians was not reachable for them by the end of regulation and they would be defeated by the score of 41-31. The Lady Dawgs would win this year's rivalry game and improve to 3-7. Holy Cross would fall to 9-8 on the season.
