A View From the Press Box
11/4/2011 - by Damian Roll
During the course of the regular season in NKY High School Football, I travel to almost every school in the area to watch games or even scrimmages and practice time. I have compiled a list of the best places to watch a game in the area. I hope you enjoy the list and make it a point to venture out and watch a game on these fields so you can experience for yourself, the View from the Press Box!

Walton-Verona Sports Complex
This is home of the Walton Verona Bearcats! This is a place that many fans have yet to experience but when you do, I promise it won’t disappoint! The best part, it’s not finished yet! This is a place where you feel like you’re down on the field and in the action. The play on the field is even better! The Bearcats under field general, Jeff Barth, are (8-2) and hosting a first round playoff game tonight vs. Lloyd (4-6). So stop out and take in a game at Walton-Verona to see if you have the same feelings that I have about this field, team, coach and community they like to call the “Bearcat Country!”

Clifford R. Borland Sr. Stadium
This is the home of the Ryle Raiders and is one of my favorite places to watch and call a game. Athletic Director, Jim Demler, is one of the reasons I like going to Union to cover a game. Demler goes out of his way to make sure every fan, home or away, has a good experience at the games. The field turf makes this a great place to catch any sporting event for that matter. There is not a bad seat in the house.

Rice Mountjoy Stadium
Home of the Dixie Colonels. This a well designed complex with a nice concession area that is accessible from both sides of the field.

Edgar McNabb Field
Home of the Beechwood Tigers. This was one field I was going to leave off my list until I covered the game there last week. The renovations make this stadium look and feel so different than in the past. The quality of football on the field makes it that much better as well.

Newport Stadium
Home of the Newport Wildcats and the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds. This is a very old stadium with a new field. There is not a bad seat in the house, or on the hill across from the field for the locals. This is one of my favorites for one reason and one reason only, Wade Cruse, the field manager. If you know who Wade is, then you know what I am talking about. He always has the place ready to go on Friday nights. Thanks Wade for all your hard work!
