Dougherty leads Lady Cats over Lady Camels 67-50
1/20/2006 - by Nathan Eten
Alexandria, KY - It was a great night on the hardwood as the Lady Cats traveled from the comforts of Pendleton County to Campbell County High School. The Lady Cats knew that they could notch their third win in a row and that is exactly what they did in tonight's game. The Lady Camels looking to improve on their 7-10 record would have to wait until their next game to gather in their next victory.

It was all Pendleton Co. early in the first quarter. The Lady Cats jumped out to an early lead after Sara Scaggs scored their first six points of the game. Campbell Co. did not get off to a good start and would start turning the ball over early on in the quarter. The Lady Camels received some scoring from Brittany Huenefeld, who came off the bench to score the first four points for the Camels. Pendleton Co. would finish the first quarter with a nice 10 point lead over the Lady Camels.

The second quarter would prove to be more of the same for the Lady Cats as they cruised to the basket off of Camel turnovers. The Lady Cats Paige Pelle and Laura Layton scored nine of their team's points in the second to assist their team to a 31-12 lead at the end of the first half. The Lady Camels would need to come out with some fire in their eyes if they wanted to get back into this game.

That is exactly what the Lady Camels did in the third quarter. The Camels worked hard in the third and the rest of the game to try to come back from their 19-point deficit. They were unable to complete the task, but the game would get much better. Campbell Co. fought their way back to get within 13-points after Katie Kitchen knocked down a three ball. The Lady Cats would still hang on to the lead despite some intense full court defense by the Lady Camels. At the end of three it was, 41-28.

In the fourth the Lady Cats did not let up on their large lead. The Lady Cats were fouled throughout the quarter and made their free-throws late. Kelly Nolan gave some life to the Camels by hitting two, three-point baskets to keep the Camels alive. The deficit was too much and the Camels were not able to get within single-digits. The Lady Cats would go on to win their third game in a row and improve their record to 7-9. The loss would drop the Lady Camel's record to 7-11.
