Conner 35 Campbell County 28
9/15/2012 - by Lizzie Kibler
Tonight, the Conner Cougars came over from Boone County against Campbell County’s Fighting Camels, claiming their third win of the season.

Conner’s star quarterback Drew Barker (#7) led the team to victory along with Brady Padgett (#13). Both teams seemed evenly matched as the first quarter ended with no score. However, the driving force was definitely Campbell County’s incredible defense in the first half of the game.

The second quarter started out well for the Camels as Tyler Durham (#18) threw a 13 yard pass to Alex Howard (#28) scoring a touchdown; the extra point being good. Later in the quarter, Durham threw a pass to Jake Zabonick (#83) that was good for a 77 yard touchdown.

The second half opened with Durham running for a 56 yard touchdown followed a Camels’ two point conversion. On the next drive, Cougars then changed the game and began driving towards Camel territory. Barker threw a 14 yard pass to Padgett, landing in the endzone, however; the extra point was blocked. The next drive concluded with Camels’ Bobby Moore (#24) running for a 7 yard touchdown; the extra point was good. That was all the scoring Campbell County would do. Barker drove to the 45 yard line on Camels’ territory allowing for Fogle to later run for a 45 yard touchdown. However their extra point was blocked by Camels’ Tyler Walsh (#12). The third quarter ended with the Camels leading 28-12.

The fourth quarter became the saving grace for Conner beginning with a 21 yard pass to Conner’s Andrew Way (#25) scoring a touchdown. Cougars then converted the two point conversion.

Conner’s Fogle ran a touchdown which, unfortunately for them, was brought back on a holding call. However, Barker’s 4 yard scoring touchdown and 2 point conversion brought the game to 28-28. With the game almost over, it seemed destined for overtime. However, with only 8 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Barker (#7) threw a 2 yard pass to Conner’s Padgett (#13) who caught the ball in the endzone scoring a touchdown. With the extra point being good, the game ended 35-28 Conner’s Cougars.

“I can’t even explain,” Barker said, “…it was awesome.”
