Kentucky Football Playoffs - Quarterfinals
11/14/2011 - by NKS Editor
This week’s Game of the Week features Class 2A action with the Holy Cross Indians (9-3) against the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds (11-1) in the Quarterfinals of the football playoffs. Last week, the Indians beat Owen County 45-0 to advance while the Breds defeated Lloyd 49-0. These two teams met earlier in the year with NewCath winning 31-14, and Holy Cross hasn’t beat NewCath since 2006.

Holy Cross vs NewCath

Beechwood at Frankfort
This will be Beechwood’s last warm-up before facing Mayfield next week in the Semifinals of the Class 1A Playoffs. Frankfort had to make a 4th Quarter comeback last week against Bellevue to win 33-21 while the Tigers had no issues with Ludlow, winning 56-0.

CovCath at Highlands
Probably the most highly anticipated game in Northern Kentucky all year. As CovCath (10-2) faces Highlands (12-0), in an attempt to stop the Bluebirds winning streak. Both teams have high-scoring offenses, and during the regular season, Highlands won a close won, 42-37. Highlands has also won the last 6 games between the two teams. The home field advantage will also help the Bluebirds as they look to continue their path to their 5th straight State Title.

Anderson County at Conner
Conner started the playoffs with a .500 record and now find themselves one win away from the Class 5A State Semifinals. The Cougars trounced Franklin County last week 84-48, and that’s not a typo, they did score 84 points. Conner will play Anderson County (10-2) who defeated Montgomery County last week 56-20. This will be a tough game for the Cougars but hopefully the home field advantage gives them some help.

Boone County at Lafayette
Boone County (8-4) travels to play Lafayette (9-3). The Rebels, who finished 3rd in their District, are still alive and have a great shot to win this game as well. Boone County beat Ryle last week 14-7 while Lafayette defeated Campbell County 20-7. Boone County last beat Lafayette in the 2009 Playoffs, 31-23.
