Breds Dominate Bellevue
11/11/2005 - by Nathan Eten
A game that was highly touted, turned out to be lackluster. Newport Central Catholic came into this game knowing that they could beat the Bellevue Tigers. In their previous meeting earlier in the season NewCath won 14-0, but that was under sloppy conditions and Bellevue couldn't use their number one weapon, runningback Lincoln Adams, the leading rusher in Northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati.

However, this time it would be no different and Bellevue's number one threat had little effect on the outcome of this game. NewCath would score early in the first quarter on a 60 yard interception return by Kevin Bueter. NewCath took the lead and wouldn't give it up the rest of the game. Next, it was QB Sam Diehl, who would score on a keeper and ran for a 52 yard TD. Breds up 14-0 on the Tigers. Bellevue tried desparately all night long to establish the running game, but they were unable to because of a tough NewCath defense. The Breds would score again, this time in the second quarter on a Diehl to Canafax connection for 38 yards. Canafax would have two touchdowns on the night and went over the 1,000 yard mark on the season. The next score from NewCath would come on a pass from Diehl to Brandon Kohrs for 1 yard.

It was later in the 2nd quarter when Bellevue ruined the shutout on a 92 yard kick return by runningback Lincoln Adams. Bellevue now was behind 7-28. That would be their only TD of the game, but NewCath was not finished. Scott Gesenhues would hit a 38 yard FG to tack on another three points for the Breds. After the FG, the Breds got another TD from their Sr. quarterback, Sam Diehl who hooked up with Josh Canafax one more time, 38-7. NewCath would get a great night out of their runningback Michael Vicars as well and he also got in the endzone in the fourth quarter. NewCath dominated the whole night and the final scoreboard read 45-7. NewCath will move on to the third round in the Playoffs next week. Bellevue's season was ended, but overall had a great season under first year coach Dave Eckstein.
