New Cath Holds On to Fireman's Bell, Defeating Newport on Sloppy Friday |
|
Brian Frey - The River City News |

The Fireman's Bell will stay on the hill for the sixteenth consecutive year.
The Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds put away the in-town rival Newport Wildcats, 22-17, on a cold, rainy Friday night.
The rain finally stopped right around the same time the game ended. Newport had won two straight games coming into Friday's rivalry match-up, but fell back under .500 with the loss (3-4). New Cath picked up its second win of the year and stands at 2-4.
The Wildcats had their chances but four personal fouls and two turnovers did damage to the effort. With one last shot, Newport threatened in a late game surge, but fell short on fourth down with less than a minute left in the game.
