Highlands (0-0) at Campbell County (1-0)
The Brian Weinrich era begins on Friday as the Bluebirds travel to Campbell County. Expect the Bluebirds to have another strong season under the new helm. This will be Highlands’ first game of the 2014 season and they haven’t lost to a Northern Kentucky team since October 28, 2010 at Ryle 28-26.

Last week, the Camels defeated East Central 31-14. Quarterback Carson Plessinger led Campbell County with 142 rush yards and 2 rush TD’s along with 86 pass yards and 1 pass TD. Highlands defeated Campbell County last year 50-8.

NewCath (0-0) at Cooper (1-0)
NewCath travels to Cooper for their season opener, they were supposed to play at Ashland Blazer last week but heavy rain flooded the football field forcing the game to be cancelled. Cooper defeated Ryle last week in a defensive battle 12-3 and they look to make it 2 wins in a row over the Breds as they defeated NewCath last year 31-22.

Conner (0-0) at Boone County (0-1)
Conner is another team starting their season this weekend. The Cougars no longer have star QB Drew Barker, and are looking to find a new identity for their team. Boone County lost to CovCath last weekend 39-6, which only consisted of one half of play. The game was called at halftime due to heat. Boone County is 4-5 against Conner since 2005 and lost last year to the Cougars 40-7.

Dixie (0-0) at CovCath (1-0) on Saturday
Both Dixie and CovCath look to be strong contenders this year. Dixie ended last year with a record of 8-4 before losing to Simon Kenton 31-19 in the playoffs. CovCath looks to be even better than last year, and they defeated Boone County last week in one half 39-6. The Colonels were led by QB Adam Wagner who threw for 230 yards and 5 TD’s. Logan McDowell recorded 3 TD receptions.

Since 2005, CovCath is 9-1 against Dixie and they edged them last year in a close game 21-13. This game is part of the Skyline Chili Showdown and the kickoff has been moved up to 9:30 A.M.
