| Holmes Headed to State for 3rd Straight Year |

Holmes defeats Boone County 32-29 for their third straight 9th Region Championship. The low scoring, defensive game was close the entire 32 minutes of action and Boone County had a chance to take the lead with about 15 seconds left but missed a layup opportunity down 30-29. Holmes made a couple of free throws and Boone County couldn't convert a couple of 3-point attempts in the final seconds of the game. Boone County finishes the season with a record of 26-5.
Holmes will now play the Region 2 winner, Christian County (21-6), March 19 at 1:30 PM. The Boys Sweet 16 is being played at Rupp Arena.

The Simon Kenton girls win their 1st Round Sweet 16 game over Breathitt County 46-37. Simon Kenton (28-4) will play Casey County (28-3) on Friday @ 1:30 PM.

The Boone County girls win their 1st Round Sweet 16 game over Rowan County 39-26. Boone County had lost earlier in the year to Rowan but bounce back with great hustle. Boone County (25-6) face the tournament favorite Elizabethtown (31-2) on Friday @ 6:30 PM.

Simon Kenton lost to Casey County 54-44 in the Sweet 16 Quarterfinal.
March 14, 2009
Iroquois defeated Elizabethtown 55-47 in Overtime to win the Kentucky Girls Sweet 16 Championship.
